Running Steam Games In Wine Mac
Updated July 3, 2017, 10:31pm EDT. Wine is an open source program for running Windows software on non-Windows operating systems. While it’s most often used on Linux, Wine can run Windows software directly on a Mac, too–without requiring a Windows license or needing Windows running in the background. Navigate to the folder where Steam.exe is located in Terminal (probably /.wine/drivec/Program Files/Steam) and type 'wine Steam.exe' into Terminal. Wait for Steam to update, and log in as you would normally. To run games, download them via PC Steam. Dependencies should install to the Wine folders.
People have reported that Steam works with just standard Wine. Install Wine from the Software Center (or click the shopping bag icon). Right click the installer executable, go to Properties → Permissions and check Allow executing file as program, then right click it again and select Open with Wine Windows program loader. The purpose of creating this wrapper is to run the Windows Steam Client and play PC games on your Mac. You may need to install certain requirements (drivers/frameworks) for the game in the wrapper in addition to Steam, but playing it should be possible. I’m not sure I quite understand the reason for downloading the files. The good news is we have Steam Play, which means that when you purchased your game on Steam you get a copy of this game on each OS that game supports. You will still be able to play these games on macOS 10.14 Mojave and earlier, Windows and in many cases Linux as well. Options to keep 32-bit Mac games playable on a Mac computer.

Due to the type of GPU I have on there I run into different compatibility issues than on my iMac under OS X. Like Serious Sam (classic) has issues with its OpenGL renderer compared to its Direct3D one ironically necessitating the need to use the latter ironically.
