Sims 3 Unable To Start Game

Start
  • If you press CTRL ALT Delete at the same time it'll bring up your task manager. You'll want to look under processes for any sims related processes. Sometimes they get 'stuck' on and you have to go in and shut them off manually before you can restart it. I hope this helps you. It works for me when that happens.
Loving yourself is the most simple and complicated thing you can do for you.
  • thank you for the suggestion duhboy2u2, unfortunately i didn't find any sims related processes
  • I just started getting that error today. So far the only workaround I have is to run my Sims 4 installation from another copy of Windows on a different drive in the same computer. No processes for Sims 4 running. Repair option not working for a solution. Anybody else getting this? Anybody else know what to do?
  • Hello @skuno2378.
Try shutting down your computer completely and then restarting the computer again.

  • I think I found the problem, my Windows user account did not have permission to access the Pictures folder any more. Double-clicked it, gave it permission, The Sims 4 works again.

  • Hello @SERENE_COLLINS .
Try shutting down your computer completely. Then start the computer again, and see if that helps.
If that doesn't help, to do the suggestion that the other simmer posted, double click on your Pictures folder that is on your computer and then give permission to access your folder.

  • Just like Reluvend, ever since I installed Windows 10 my Sims won't open and I get the same message saying The Sims 4 is unable to start. I've done everything mentioned in this article and still doesn't work. :(
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello @Anilorac.
Check that your graphics drivers are up to date.
Right click the sims 4 program and click run as administrator and see if that helps.
I will post here some other things that have helped other simmers.
Hi all the only way to fix this problem is remove i s doing the following:
Step 1 go to control panel in windows 10 then go to user accounts click on user accounts/ click on user accounts control settings and bring down the control bar all the way to never notify
Step 2 then go to documents/electronic arts.
Right click on the sims 4 directory select properties unselect read only then go to sharing select share make sure your computer name is owner select it then click share then
step 3 in the the sims properties from step 2 go to securities make sure your computer name has full control see bottom of screen after selecting if permissions are not full then press edit change to full control then click apply then close this should fix your problem
Got it to go- through compatibility mode. I had tried running it as an admin through the launcher and that didn't do it, but through the compatibility mode troubleshooter I said it needed permissions, and it ran it as an admin through the exe in the origin games folder, and that got it going. Not exactly convenient, but works for now. Thanks for the help!

Try repairing the game. To do that, right click on the sims 4 picture in Origin and click repair.
If you still have issues after that, try resetting your sims 4 folder and see if that helps. To do that, move your sims 4 folder ( that is in Documents -Electronic Arts - then the sims 4 folder is there ) to the desktop. Then try to start the game. If you can start the game, a new sims 4 folder will be generated. Start a new game and test to see if the game is working okay. Exit the game and then add back the 'options.ini' file and the 'saves' , 'screenshots' 'tray' 'custom music ' and 'mods' folders to the new sims 4 folder, replacing the new generated file/ folders with the old file/folders, testing after replacing each one to see how the game is working.

  • I have the same problem and the sims 4 can't run on Mac.
There are solutions for window users, but are there any solutions for Mac users?
    Thank you.

    Hello @sailingships666
Try doing what is suggested in this link

If the issue remains, check to see if your firewall or antivirus programs are causing this issue.
